About Doctor Slump
Doctor Slump (Korean title Dakteo Seulleompeu) is a 2024 South Korean romantic comedy that aired on the cable network JTBC and streamed worldwide on Netflix. It follows Yeo Jeong-woo and Nam Ha-neul, two former high-school classmates who were once fierce academic rivals, each obsessed with finishing first in their class. Years later, both have become doctors, but both have also hit the lowest point of their careers and personal lives, and they unexpectedly cross paths again as neighbors on the same rooftop.
Jeong-woo had risen to become a celebrated plastic surgeon with his own clinic and a glamorous public profile, until a catastrophic incident in the operating room destroys his reputation and leaves his life in ruins. Ha-neul, meanwhile, is a relentlessly diligent anesthesiology specialist who has spent her whole life working hard, only to find herself burned out, undervalued, and pushed to quit her hospital job. Reduced to their lowest ebbs at the same moment, the old rivals slowly become each other's unlikely support system.
As they share meals, frustrations, and small comforts, their wary competitiveness gives way to friendship and then to a tender romance, while each works to recover from depression, professional setbacks, and the pressure to succeed. Built around themes of burnout, healing, and second chances, the series balances bright comedy with frank, compassionate depictions of mental-health struggles, and earned an international following as a warm, restorative K-drama anchored by leads Park Hyung-sik and Park Shin-hye.
