About Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (Korean title Gaetmaeul Chachacha) is a South Korean romantic comedy that aired on the cable network tvN in 2021. It follows Yoon Hye-jin, a polished and successful dentist from Seoul who, after a sudden career setback, leaves the city and opens her own practice in the small, picturesque seaside village of Gongjin. Used to a fast-paced urban life, she finds herself adjusting to the slower rhythms and close-knit community of a coastal fishing town.
In Gongjin she repeatedly crosses paths with Hong Du-sik, an easygoing local known to everyone as Chief Hong. A jack-of-all-trades who takes on every odd job imaginable, from handyman work to helping neighbors, he is beloved in the village but guards a quieter, more reflective side. Hye-jin and Du-sik clash at first over their very different temperaments and values, but their bickering gradually gives way to warmth, friendship, and eventually romance.
Adapted from the 2004 film Mr. Handy, Mr. Hong, the series is a cozy, feel-good drama built around the everyday lives of Gongjin's residents. Alongside the central love story, it weaves in an ensemble of villagers whose joys, worries, and small dramas give the town its sunny, comforting character. Known for its bright coastal scenery, gentle humor, and heartfelt emotional beats, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha became a popular comfort drama both in South Korea and internationally.
