About Doona!
Doona! is a 2023 South Korean romance drama released on Netflix, adapted from the popular webtoon The Girl Downstairs by Min Song-a. The story follows Lee Won-jun, an earnest college student who moves to Seoul for university and takes a room in a share house, only to discover that one of his housemates is Lee Doo-na, a strikingly beautiful young woman who was once the center of attention as a K-pop idol. Doo-na walked away from fame at the height of her career, and her abrupt retreat from the spotlight hangs over the household like an unspoken question.
What begins as awkward proximity slowly deepens into a tender, push-and-pull romance. Won-jun is steady, considerate, and a little overwhelmed by the woman living down the hall; Doo-na is guarded, mercurial, and quietly carrying the weight of burnout, loneliness, and a public life that consumed her sense of self. As the two circle each other, the series lingers on small moments, charged silences, and the difficulty of opening up when you have been hurt before.
Across its nine episodes, Doona! is less a conventional rom-com than a melancholy meditation on love, identity, and the cost of being adored by strangers. Directed by Lee Jung-hyo, the show pairs a muted, atmospheric visual style with a soundtrack-forward mood, exploring whether two emotionally cautious people can build something real, and whether Doo-na can rediscover who she is apart from the idol she used to be.
