About Gerak Khas
Gerak Khas is a long-running Malaysian police procedural that first aired in 1999 and became the country's longest-running television drama series. Produced by Yusof Haslam's Skop Productions in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police, the series followed a special task force of detectives and uniformed officers as they investigated crimes across Malaysia, from bank robberies and kidnappings to drug trafficking and homicide. The procedural drew on both fictional cases and storylines inspired by real events, presenting police work as methodical, team-based, and grounded in everyday Malaysian settings.
The ensemble was anchored over the years by veteran investigators and younger inspectors who rotated through the unit as the show evolved across two decades. Early seasons paired Inspector Mazlan, played by AC Mizal, and Inspector Aleeza, played by Abby Abadi, as two of the original cast members, while a later era was led by Inspector Ashraf, played by Zul Ariffin. The cases unfolded with a focus on investigation, interrogation, and the personal lives of the officers, balancing action set pieces with quieter family and workplace drama.
Across 20 seasons and more than a thousand episodes, Gerak Khas became a fixture of Malaysian television and a launching pad for several performers who went on to broader film and music careers. Its long collaboration with the national police force gave it a distinctive procedural texture, and it spawned three theatrical films as well as a later spin-off, Gerak Khas Undercover. The series is widely remembered as a defining title of the RTM era and a touchstone of homegrown crime drama in Malaysia.
