About Hierro
Hierro is an atmospheric Spanish crime drama set on the remote volcanic island of El Hierro, the smallest and most isolated of the Canary Islands. Candela Montes, a tough and unconventional judge, arrives to take up her post on the island just as a murder upends the close-knit community. Far from the mainland and surrounded by stark black-lava coastlines and wind-scoured cliffs, she finds herself in a place where everyone knows everyone and outsiders are watched closely.
The investigation quickly centers on Antonio Diaz, a powerful local businessman who runs a banana plantation and casts a long shadow over island life. Convinced of his innocence yet unable to escape suspicion, Diaz becomes locked in a wary, cat-and-mouse relationship with the judge, each circling the other as the truth stays just out of reach. Their clash, part adversarial and part grudging mutual respect, drives the slow-burn tension at the heart of the show.
Acclaimed for its moody island atmosphere and its two strong central performances, Hierro ran for two seasons and fourteen episodes. A Movistar+ original co-produced with the French and German network Arte, it pairs a deliberate, character-led mystery with the haunting landscapes of El Hierro, treating crime in restrained, non-graphic terms while keeping the focus on its people.
