About Invisible City
Invisible City (Cidade Invisivel) is a Brazilian fantasy series created by Carlos Saldanha and released on Netflix, with its first season premiering in February 2021 and a second season following in March 2023. The story begins when Eric, a grieving environmental-police officer played by Marco Pigossi, loses his wife in a fire and then stumbles onto the body of a pink river dolphin washed up on a Rio de Janeiro beach. That single strange death pulls him toward a hidden world he never knew existed.
Threaded through the investigation are entities drawn straight from Brazilian folklore, living secretly among ordinary people: the forest-guarding Curupira, the song-luring Iara, the one-legged trickster Saci, the wish-granting Matinta Perera, and the shapeshifting pink dolphin. Presiding over them is Ines, also known as the witch Cuca, who can slip into minds and lull people to sleep. As Eric digs deeper, he learns that these creatures are tangled up with his late wife and with his own unexpected nature.
Lush and melancholy, the show reimagines Amazonian and folk myth inside a contemporary urban setting, blending murder-mystery procedure with magical realism. Across two seasons it widens its scope from Rio to a mythic forest town, deepening the mystery of Eric's daughter, the entities' origins, and the fragile boundary between the human and invisible worlds. The series was noted as one of Netflix's higher-profile Brazilian originals before concluding after its second season.
