About Knight Rider
Knight Rider follows Michael Knight, a former police detective left for dead and given a new face, a new name, and a singular mission: to be a lone crusader in a dangerous world. Bankrolled by the wealthy, philanthropic Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG), Michael takes on cases that the system cannot or will not touch, helping ordinary people menaced by criminals who operate above the law.
His greatest ally is KITT, the Knight Industries Two Thousand, a black Pontiac Trans Am retrofitted with an artificially intelligent computer, a sardonic personality, and a near-indestructible Molecular Bonded Shell. KITT can drive itself, leap obstacles with Turbo Boost, scan its surroundings, and trade quips with Michael as the two roar across the country righting wrongs. The car is as much a partner as a vehicle, and the chemistry between man and machine became the show's signature.
Created by prolific producer Glen A. Larson, the series ran four seasons on NBC from 1982 to 1986 and became a defining piece of 1980s pop culture. With its pulsing synth theme, weekly stunts, and the unforgettable image of KITT's red scanner sweeping back and forth, Knight Rider blended crime drama, light science fiction, and crowd-pleasing action into a format that spawned spin-offs, reunion films, and a lasting fan following.
