About Motel California
Motel California is a 2025 South Korean romance drama that follows Ji Kang-hee, a woman who was born and raised at her family's roadside motel in a rural town. At twenty she left home for Seoul, determined to build a different life, and over the following years she became a successful and sought-after interior designer. Twelve years after walking away, circumstances draw her back to the hometown she had tried to leave behind, and to the worn family motel that still carries the memories she once sealed away.
Returning to the village means confronting the people and the past she left without explanation, chief among them her first love, Cheon Yeon-soo, who has stayed in town and built a quiet life as the local veterinarian. Their reunion reopens an unfinished story, framed as a warm second-chance romance in which old feelings, lingering hurts, and the comfort of a shared history gradually resurface. The motel itself becomes a kind of character, a place of return, repair, and remembering.
Across twelve episodes the series balances gentle hometown nostalgia with the emotional work of reconciliation, exploring why Kang-hee left, what she finds changed and unchanged, and whether a love rooted in adolescence can be rebuilt by two adults. Anchored by Lee Se-young and Na In-woo in the lead roles and by veteran actor Choi Min-soo as Kang-hee's father, it leans on the slow-burn warmth and small-town texture associated with the hometown-romance corner of Korean drama.
