About Our Blues
Our Blues is a 2022 South Korean omnibus drama set on Jeju Island, where the sea, the traditional outdoor market, and the close-knit fishing villages form the backdrop for a sprawling cast of ordinary people. Rather than following a single couple, the series braids together several self-contained yet interlocking story arcs, each centering a different resident or pair as the narrative baton passes from one set of characters to the next across its twenty episodes.
The ensemble spans generations and walks of life: market vendors and truck sellers, the haenyeo (women free-divers) who harvest the seabed, fishermen, students, and returning natives carrying old wounds. Recurring themes include first and reunited love, single parenthood, financial hardship, illness, estrangement between parents and children, and the quiet bonds that hold a small community together. The tone is warm and humane, balancing humor with moments of grief and reconciliation.
Written by acclaimed screenwriter Noh Hee-kyung, Our Blues is built around the idea that every person, no matter how minor they might seem in someone else's story, is the protagonist of their own. The drama aired on tvN and streamed on Netflix in 2022, earning praise for its naturalistic Jeju setting, its large and well-regarded cast, and its tender, life-affirming portrayal of resilience among everyday people.
