About My Home Hero
My Home Hero is a Japanese live-action suspense thriller adapted from the manga of the same name written by Naoki Yamamoto and illustrated by Masashi Asaki. It follows Tetsuo Tosu, an ordinary middle-aged manga editor and devoted family man, who discovers that his university-age daughter Reika is being abused by her boyfriend, a low-level figure tied to organized crime. When a confrontation in the boyfriend's apartment turns fatal, Tetsuo is left standing over a body and a single, desperate goal: to protect his family from the consequences.
What begins as a single shocking night spirals into an elaborate game of survival. Drawing on the mystery plots he has spent his career editing, Tetsuo must conceal what happened, mislead the dangerous people searching for the missing man, and stay one step ahead of investigators. The series turns an unremarkable salaryman into an unlikely tactician, framing each conversation and small decision as a high-stakes move in a contest he never wanted to enter.
Produced for Nippon TV and streamed on Hulu Japan, the 2023 series ran for ten episodes and leans on tension, misdirection, and the psychology of an everyman pushed to his limits rather than on graphic spectacle. Its central question, how far a parent will go to keep loved ones safe, anchors a tightly plotted cat-and-mouse story that keeps its violence largely off-screen and its focus on dread, guilt, and quick thinking.
