About My Stand-In
My Stand-In is a 2024 Thai drama, an iQIYI Original adapted from a Chinese web novel, that wraps a tender second-chance romance inside a fantasy of transmigration. It follows Joe, a hardworking film stuntman who quietly carries a one-sided affection for the rising star whose dangerous scenes he doubles. When that devotion is betrayed and Joe dies in a brutal accident, he wakes in the body of another young man, given a single chance to live a different life and to understand the love he thought he had lost.
At the heart of the story is Ming, a famous actor whose charm hides a controlling, possessive streak, and whose feelings for Joe are far more tangled than either of them first admits. As Joe returns in unfamiliar skin, the two are drawn back into orbit around each other, forced to reckon with old wounds, jealousy, and the question of whether their bond was ever real or simply a matter of one man standing in for someone else. The series leans into melodrama and moral grey areas, letting its leads be flawed rather than perfect.
Across twelve emotionally charged episodes, My Stand-In balances its supernatural hook with grounded themes of self-worth, forgiveness, and the courage to choose yourself. It became one of the most talked-about Thai BL titles of 2024, praised for the committed, slow-burning chemistry between Poom Phuripan and Up Poompat and for a finale in which Joe finally decides to live, mends his fractured family ties, and steps into a future of his own making.
