About To Kafe tis Haras
To Kafe tis Haras (Chara's Cafe) is one of the most beloved Greek comedy-drama series ever made, broadcast on ANT1 across three original seasons from 2003 to 2006 and revived for a fourth and fifth season between 2019 and 2021. The story begins in Athens, where Chara Chaska, a sharp and good-hearted single mother, works at an advertising agency. When a colleague steals her campaign idea and is promoted over her, she walks away from city life, packs up her young daughter Valia, and moves to Kolokotronitsi, a tiny fictional mountain village in Arcadia where she has inherited a small property.
In the village Chara opens a modest coffee house, the kafeneio of the title, and instantly collides with Periandros Popotas, the proud, old-fashioned and endlessly self-important mayor who is not at all sure that a modern Athenian woman belongs in his quiet community. Their running battle of wits over village affairs, tradition and progress slowly softens into mutual respect and a tender, will-they-wont-they affection that anchors the whole series. Around them turns a warm ensemble of villagers, including the mayor's gossipy sister Stavroula and her rival cafe-owner husband, each with their own small dramas, schemes and reconciliations.
Created, co-written and led by Haris Romas, the show became a national favorite for its gentle humor, its affectionate portrait of rural Greek life and its big-hearted message that community and kindness matter more than ambition. Its blend of sitcom warmth and character-driven storytelling kept audiences loyal for years, and the long-awaited revival proved that the residents of Kolokotronitsi had lost none of their charm. To Kafe tis Haras remains a comfort-viewing landmark of modern Greek television.
