About Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!
Kazuhiko Nukumizu is an unremarkable high schooler who prefers to fade into the background, observing his classmates from the sidelines while burning through light novels. His quiet routine is upended when he witnesses the bright and bubbly Anna Yanami get gently turned down by her childhood friend, who has fallen for someone else. From that awkward moment forward, Nukumizu finds himself unexpectedly entangled in the lives of the school's 'losing heroines' — the girls who did not get the romance they hoped for.
Anna is only the first. Before long, Nukumizu crosses paths with the composed track star Lemon Yakishio and the prickly, literary-minded Chika Komari, each nursing the sting of an unrequited crush. Rather than wallowing, the girls pull the reluctant Nukumizu into their orbit, and a strange, funny, and heartfelt friendship begins to form around their shared experience of coming up short in love.
Blending sharp comedy with genuine warmth, the series flips the usual romance formula on its head, giving the spotlight to the characters who normally get left behind. Through cafeteria binges, literature club meetings, and plenty of dramatic overreactions, Makeine explores how a setback in love can be the start of something just as meaningful — and how being a 'loser' in one story can make you the hero of another.
