About Tribes of Europa
Tribes of Europa is a German dystopian science-fiction series created by Philip Koch and produced by the team behind Netflix's Dark. It premiered on Netflix on February 19, 2021. Set in the year 2074, the story unfolds 45 years after a mysterious global technological collapse shattered the old world order, leaving the European continent splintered into isolated, often rivalrous microstates and tribes that each carved out their own way of surviving.
At the heart of the series are three siblings of the Origines, a peaceful forest-dwelling tribe that has chosen to live apart from the conflicts of the new age. When a flying craft crashes near their home, the siblings come into possession of a mysterious piece of advanced technology that many factions covet. The discovery sets off a chain of events that separates Liv, Kiano, and Elja and pulls each of them into very different corners of a fractured Europe.
Liv, the eldest, is drawn toward the disciplined Crimson tribe and the militarized world beyond the forest; Kiano falls into the orbit of the powerful, hedonistic Crows, where he must learn to navigate a harsh new society; and Elja, the youngest, sets out on a road-trip-style quest to understand the cube and find his way back to his family. Their separate journeys gradually reveal the wider stakes of the conflict swirling around the technology they uncovered.
Stylish, atmospheric, and built around a sprawling original mythology, Tribes of Europa blends coming-of-age drama with worldbuilding-heavy adventure. The single six-episode season established its tribes, factions, and central mystery while leaving its sibling storylines poised for further development, and the show became a talking point among fans of European genre television and of the producers' earlier hit Dark.
