About Verdades Secretas
Verdades Secretas, released internationally as Secret Truths, is a Brazilian prime time telenovela created by Walcyr Carrasco that aired on TV Globo in 2015 and later streamed worldwide on Globoplay and through international distribution. Set in the high pressure world of Sao Paulo fashion, the story follows Arlete, a teenager from the countryside who travels to the city with her mother hoping to become a model, only to be pulled into a hidden economy where young models are quietly connected with wealthy clients.
Taking the runway name Angel, the young woman is drawn into the orbit of Alex, a powerful and possessive businessman whose obsession with her reshapes both their lives. Around them moves a network of agents, bookers, and rivals, including the seasoned model Larissa, whose spiral into addiction exposes the darker machinery behind the glamour. The fashion house owner Carolina becomes entangled with Alex as well, setting up a collision of love, jealousy, and money that drives the central plot.
The series was praised for its bold visual style and frank treatment of adult themes, and it became one of the most talked about Brazilian dramas of its era, drawing strong ratings and later a sequel season, Verdades Secretas II, in 2021. Presented as a glossy melodrama, it uses the fashion industry as a backdrop to examine ambition, exploitation, and the cost of chasing status, anchored by performances that made several of its cast household names across Brazil and Portuguese speaking markets.
