About Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku is an adult workplace romantic comedy that follows Narumi Momose, a bright and outgoing office worker who hides a secret life as a fujoshi, a devoted female otaku obsessed with manga, anime, and dojinshi. After quitting her previous job when a boyfriend discovered her hobby, Narumi vows to keep her geeky side hidden at her new company. That plan unravels on her very first day when she runs into Hirotaka Nifuji, her stoic childhood friend and an unapologetic hardcore gamer who works in the same office.
When Hirotaka casually suggests that dating a fellow otaku would be easier because they would understand each other, the two former classmates decide to give a relationship a try. What unfolds is a warm, grounded look at romance between two grown-up geeks who are far more comfortable discussing video game strategies and convention plans than expressing their feelings. Their awkward, funny, and surprisingly tender attempts to connect form the heart of the series.
The story widens to include their close circle of coworkers, including the elegant and intense Hanako Koyanagi and the gentle gaming enthusiast Tarou Kabakura, whose own bickering romance mirrors and contrasts with Narumi and Hirotaka. Together the group navigates deadlines, gaming marathons, comic conventions, and the small everyday moments that make adult love both complicated and rewarding. Clean, cozy, and wholesome, Wotakoi celebrates fandom and the idea that the right person loves you for exactly who you are.
