Character Arc
Choi Ung is a laid-back, free-spirited young man who, during high school, was the lowest-ranked student in his class, a status that led to him being paired with top student Kook Yeon-su for a school documentary. Behind his relaxed, often sleepy demeanor lies a thoughtful and emotionally perceptive person who feels deeply but tends to avoid confrontation, a trait rooted in childhood insecurities about being abandoned.
By the present-day storyline, Choi Ung has reinvented himself as a celebrated muralist and architectural illustrator who works anonymously, channeling his quiet artistry into large-scale public works. When the old documentary resurfaces and brings Kook Yeon-su back into his orbit, the reunion reopens the wound of their breakup and forces him to confront how much of his easygoing persona is a shield against vulnerability.
Over the course of the series, Choi Ung gradually learns to articulate his feelings, take emotional risks, and meet Yeon-su honestly rather than retreating into avoidance. His arc traces a maturing of love, from the impulsive devotion of his teenage years to a steadier, more self-aware commitment, as the two work toward understanding why their first attempt failed and whether they can build something lasting.
