Character Arc
Kook Yeon-su is a fiercely independent and hardworking young woman who was the top-ranked student in her high school class, which led to her being filmed alongside the lowest-ranked Choi Ung for a documentary. Raised in difficult financial circumstances, she developed a strong sense of self-reliance and a guarded heart, determined to build a stable life through her own effort rather than depend on anyone else.
In the present day, Yeon-su works in marketing, having clawed her way into the professional world through persistence and long hours. The viral resurgence of the old documentary throws her back together with Choi Ung, the first love she pushed away, and forces her to confront the insecurities and pride that contributed to their breakup. Her composed, capable exterior masks lingering regret and a fear of being a burden to the people she loves.
Across the series, Yeon-su's arc is about learning to be honest about her needs and to accept love without seeing it as a weakness. As she and Choi Ung revisit their shared history on camera, she gradually lowers her defenses, allowing herself to reconcile ambition with intimacy and to imagine a future in which she does not have to carry everything alone.
