About Bungo Stray Dogs
Bungo Stray Dogs follows Atsushi Nakajima, an orphaned teenager who is thrown out of his orphanage and left to starve on the streets of Yokohama. His luck changes when he rescues a strange man drowning in a river, only to discover that the man is Osamu Dazai, a member of a group of gifted investigators called the Armed Detective Agency. The agency takes on dangerous cases that ordinary police cannot handle, and many of its members wield supernatural abilities of their own.
The series builds its world around characters named after celebrated Japanese and international authors, each granted a special power drawn from the title of one of that writer's real works. Atsushi can transform into a powerful white tiger, Dazai can nullify any ability with a touch, and the agency clashes repeatedly with the ruthless criminal syndicate known as the Port Mafia. As the story expands, a third faction, an American organization called the Guild, enters the fray and raises the stakes for everyone in the city.
Across its run, Bungo Stray Dogs blends fast action set pieces with mystery plotting, dark humor, and surprisingly emotional character drama. The show explores themes of self worth, found family, and the search for a reason to live, often anchored in Atsushi's struggle to believe he deserves a place in the world. Produced by Studio Bones, it became a flagship action title for the studio and earned a devoted international fan base alongside its ongoing manga source.
