About Gyeongseong Creature
Gyeongseong Creature is a South Korean period thriller set in 1945, during the final months of the Japanese occupation, in the city then known as Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul). At its center is Jang Tae-sang, a shrewd and well-connected pawnshop owner who runs the House of Golden Treasure and prides himself on surviving by reading every room. His careful neutrality is tested when he is drawn into a search that leads to a heavily guarded hospital and the disturbing secret hidden within it.
Tae-sang's path crosses with Yoon Chae-ok, a sharp and fearless tracker who has spent years searching for missing people, including her own mother. Their partnership begins as a wary transaction and deepens into trust, loyalty, and a tentative romance as the danger around them grows. Together they confront an institution that treats human lives as expendable, and they must decide how much they are willing to risk for one another and for the people who have vanished.
The series treats its wartime and colonial backdrop with gravity, using the horror at the story's edges to underline questions of survival, complicity, and conscience under occupation. A later chapter carries the story forward in time, following the long shadow these events cast and reuniting threads from the original mystery. Across its run, Gyeongseong Creature pairs atmospheric period detail with a creature-thriller framework and an emotional core built on its central relationship.
