About Knots Landing
Knots Landing is an American primetime soap opera that aired on CBS from 1979 to 1993. A spin-off of the hit series Dallas, it follows Gary Ewing, the troubled middle son of the Texas oil family, and his wife Valene as they relocate to a quiet cul-de-sac in the fictional coastal suburb of Knots Landing, California. What begins as a study of four married couples on Seaview Circle gradually expands into a sprawling chronicle of love, betrayal, business intrigue, and crime.
Created by David Jacobs, who also created Dallas, the series was originally conceived as a more grounded, character-driven drama about ordinary suburban marriages. Over its fourteen seasons it grew increasingly elaborate, introducing corporate conspiracies, murder mysteries, kidnappings, and long-running rivalries while keeping its emphasis on the relationships among neighbors. The ensemble cast and interwoven storylines helped make it one of the longest-running primetime dramas in American television history.
Central figures across the run include the steady, principled Karen MacKenzie, the recovering and frequently embattled Gary Ewing, and the resilient writer Valene Ewing, alongside a rotating community of spouses, schemers, and newcomers. Knots Landing remained on the air longer than its parent series, concluding in 1993, and is remembered as a defining example of the 1980s primetime soap genre alongside Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest.
