About Old Fashion Cupcake
Old Fashion Cupcake is a tender 2022 Japanese workplace romance that streamed on Fuji TV On Demand (FOD), adapted from Sagan Sagan's manga and directed by Ayaka Kato. It follows Nozue, a capable section manager in his early forties who has quietly settled into a grey, going-through-the-motions routine. Competent at his job but worn down by the sense that his best days are behind him, he drifts through his days until a younger colleague decides, gently, to shake him out of it.
That colleague is Togawa, an attentive subordinate who has long admired Nozue and sets out to coax him back toward small everyday pleasures. Their friendship grows through unhurried outings, shared meals, and especially desserts, as Togawa keeps finding excuses to introduce his boss to pancakes, parfaits, and other sweet treats. What begins as kind attention slowly deepens into something warmer and more uncertain, and the series lets that feeling unfold at its own patient pace.
Built around quiet conversations, office routines, and the comfort of a good cake, the show is a gentle slice-of-life story about midlife renewal and the courage to let joy back in. It treats its central relationship with warmth, restraint, and tact, finding emotion in small gestures rather than melodrama. Anchored by Kouhei Takeda as Nozue and Tatsunari Kimura as Togawa, it became a quietly beloved entry in Japan's wave of tender, food-loving dramas.
