About Ouran High School Host Club
Ouran High School Host Club follows Haruhi Fujioka, a sharp and unflappable scholarship student who earns a place at the absurdly wealthy Ouran Academy on brains alone. Searching for a quiet room to study, Haruhi stumbles into the school music room that the Host Club has claimed as its own and accidentally knocks over an antique vase worth eight million yen. With no way to pay, Haruhi is roped into working off the debt as a member of the club, a glittering after-school operation where handsome boys entertain the school's young ladies.
Because Haruhi arrives looking plain and androgynous, the hosts assume she is a boy, and she is happy to let the mix-up stand since the costume and the haircut make little difference to her. As the club's flamboyant king Tamaki Suoh and the rest of the members slowly realise the truth, they decide to keep her secret and present her as the club's newest natural host. What begins as a punishment turns into an unlikely family, with Haruhi grounding the group's larger-than-life personalities in plain common sense.
Across twenty-six episodes the series gleefully parodies shojo romance conventions while delivering plenty of genuine warmth. The hosts each embody a classic archetype, from the cool type to the boy-Lolita type to the mischievous twins, and the show pokes fun at rich-kid excess, class divides, and over-the-top melodrama. Underneath the comedy, Haruhi's friendships deepen and a gentle romance flickers to life, making Ouran a beloved and wholesome gateway anime for fans of the genre.
