About Ranking of Kings
Ranking of Kings, known in Japan as Ousama Ranking, is a heartfelt fantasy adventure adapted by Wit Studio from the manga by Sosuke Toka. It follows Bojji, the eldest son of King Bosse, who is small in stature, cannot hear, and cannot speak. Because of these traits the people of the kingdom underestimate him and many believe he is unfit to ever inherit the throne. Despite the cruelty and pity directed at him, Bojji holds on to a pure dream of becoming the greatest king the world has ever seen.
Everything changes when Bojji meets Kage, a mysterious shadow creature who is the last survivor of an assassin clan. Kage is the first person able to truly understand Bojji, reading his gestures and expressions where everyone else sees only a weak and silent boy. Their friendship becomes the emotional heart of the story as the two set out together, with Kage helping Bojji navigate a world that has written him off. Along the way Bojji begins formal training and slowly reveals reserves of courage, kindness, and resolve that no one expected.
As palace politics, family rivalries, and old betrayals come to light, Bojji must confront the schemes surrounding the succession and the dark forces tied to his father's past. The series balances tender, fairy tale style visuals with surprisingly mature themes about disability, loss, and the meaning of strength. Praised by critics and fans alike, Ranking of Kings became one of the most acclaimed anime of its season and earned a devoted following for its underdog hero and its message that true greatness comes from compassion.
