About Reckless
Reckless is a Kenyan youth drama that premiered as a Showmax Original on June 23, 2025. Produced by Live Eye Limited, the team behind Showmax titles such as Second Family and Faithless, the series is told in English and Swahili and follows the privileged Sonoko brothers whose comfortable world is upended in a single night. When a high-speed illegal street race ends in a fatal accident, the family is forced to confront consequences that money and influence cannot simply make disappear.
To escape the fallout, the brothers and their family leave the city behind for life in a remote village, a setting far removed from the wealth and status they once took for granted. Stripped of their usual protections, Pete, Mika, and Edward Sonoko must learn to survive among strangers, hold their fractured family together, and reckon with the choices that brought them there. The contrast between their old life and their new one drives much of the show's tension.
Created and conceived by Vivek Bahl with Jim Malakwen as head writer, and directed by Carol Ochieng, Gilbert Lukalia, and Isaya Evans, Reckless blends family melodrama with the suspense of a family on the run. Themes of brotherhood, accountability, guilt, and the long road toward redemption anchor the story, while a deep ensemble of Kenyan performers fills out the village and the secrets it hides. Episodes are released twice a week, building a serialized arc around the question of whether the Sonokos can rebuild what their recklessness destroyed.
