About Resident Playbook
Resident Playbook (Korean title: Jeonjjokdeului Sesang) is a 2025 South Korean medical drama set in the Hospital Playlist universe, unfolding at the fictional Jongno Yulje Medical Center. The series follows four first-year obstetrics and gynecology residents as they begin their training in one of the most demanding departments in the hospital, where every shift can swing from joy to crisis and a single mistake carries enormous weight. Rather than centering veteran doctors, the show narrows its focus to the bottom rung of the medical hierarchy, capturing the exhaustion, fear, and small victories of newcomers learning their trade.
At the heart of the story is Oh Yi-young, a resident who restarts her career in OB-GYN after an earlier path stalls, arriving with more life experience than her peers but no less uncertainty about whether she belongs. Around her form a tight, mismatched cohort that includes the brilliant and intensely competitive Pyo Nam-kyung and fellow first-years finding their footing under punishing hours. The residents lean on one another to survive grueling overnight calls, difficult deliveries, and the constant pressure of senior physicians who expect them to grow up fast.
Made by the creative team behind the Hospital Playlist series, Resident Playbook keeps that franchise's signature blend of warmth, humor, and humane realism while shifting the lens to the anxieties of starting out. It treats the obstetrics ward as a place of both heartbreak and renewal, balancing medical tension with comedy, mentorship, and the gradual formation of a found family among colleagues who begin as strangers. The result is an ensemble coming-of-age story about competence, resilience, and learning to care for patients and for each other.
