About Saint Seiya
Saint Seiya, known in some territories as Knights of the Zodiac, is a mythological action anime adapted from Masami Kurumada's manga and produced by Toei Animation. Set in a world where the Greek goddess Athena is reborn in each age, it follows a band of young warriors called Saints (or Knights) who draw their power from the cosmos and the constellations. Clad in sacred suits of armor called Cloths, each modeled on a different constellation, the Saints pledge their lives to protect Athena and humanity from forces that would plunge the world into darkness.
The series centers on Pegasus Seiya and his fellow Bronze Saints — among them Dragon Shiryu and Cygnus Hyoga — orphaned boys who endure brutal training to earn their Cloths. United by their devotion to the reincarnated Athena, Saori Kido, they climb through escalating ranks of opponents, from rival Bronze Saints to the elite Gold Saints who guard the twelve houses of the Sanctuary. Battles are framed as clashes of willpower and 'Cosmo,' the inner energy each Saint awakens to push beyond human limits.
Across its original 1986–1989 run, Saint Seiya blended Greek and other mythologies with the sensibility of a competitive shonen battle series, helping popularize the 'fighting team in themed armor' template that influenced many later anime. Its dramatic transformations, escalating power tiers, and themes of brotherhood and sacrifice made it a touchstone of the era, hugely popular in Japan and later a cult and mainstream favorite across Europe and Latin America.
