About Sengoku Youko
Sengoku Youko is set in a Sengoku-era Japan where humans and yokai share an uneasy world, and follows a kind-hearted monster-fox named Tama who has devoted herself to protecting people from the malevolent spirits that prey on them. Traveling alongside her is Jinka Yumeji, a human swordsman raised among yokai who carries a fierce hatred of cruelty, and Shinsuke, a gentle young exorcist-in-training. Together this unlikely trio roams the countryside, confronting the monsters and human wickedness they encounter along the way.
Adapted by studio White Fox from Satoshi Mizukami's manga, the series blends big-hearted shonen adventure with a genuine philosophical streak. As the companions battle dangerous spirits, they keep circling back to the question that gives the story its emotional core: what truly separates a monster from a human, and whether compassion or violence defines a person more than the shape of their body. Tama's unwavering belief in kindness is repeatedly tested against a world that often rewards ruthlessness.
Across its two seasons the story broadens from episodic spirit-hunting into a sweeping tale of found family, sacrifice, and transformation, gradually introducing a larger cast and deeper stakes. The combat is framed as part of the adventure rather than its purpose, and the heart of the series remains the bond between its travelers. Warm, earnest, and unafraid of melancholy, Sengoku Youko pairs supernatural action with a sincere meditation on what it means to choose to be good.
