About The Valhalla Murders
The Valhalla Murders (Icelandic: Brot) is an Icelandic Nordic-noir crime drama produced for the national broadcaster RUV and carried internationally by Netflix as one of the first Icelandic original series on the platform. Set in a wintry, grey-skied Reykjavik, it follows seasoned local detective Kata as she takes on a disturbing case unlike anything the city's small police force has handled before. When the investigation begins to outgrow the department's resources, a profiler named Arnar is called back from Norway to lend his expertise, and the two must learn to work together despite very different instincts and temperaments.
As Kata and Arnar trace connections between the victims, the case leads them away from the present and back into the past, toward a long-shuttered boys' home and the buried secrets of the people once connected to it. The series keeps its focus on the detectives and the methodical, often frustrating work of an investigation, letting the bleak northern light, the quiet city, and a pervasive sense of unease carry the tension rather than spectacle.
Anchored by Nina Dogg Filippusdottir as Kata and Bjorn Thors as Arnar, with Sigurdur Skulason as the police commissioner overseeing the case, The Valhalla Murders is a slow-burn, atmosphere-driven mystery in the tradition of Scandinavian crime television. Over eight episodes it builds a portrait of two damaged investigators confronting an institution's hidden history, and of a community forced to reckon with what it once chose not to see.
