About The Are Murders
The Are Murders (Swedish: Aremorden) is a 2025 Swedish Nordic-noir crime series that premiered worldwide on Netflix in February 2025. Adapted from Viveca Sten's bestselling Hidden in Snow novels, it follows Stockholm police officer Hanna Ahlander, who steps away from her job and her city life and retreats to her sister's holiday home in the alpine ski-resort town of Are in the far north of Sweden. What is meant to be a quiet reset turns into something else entirely when a young woman goes missing on the eve of the Lucia festival and the postcard calm of the mountain town is shattered.
With the small local force short-staffed, reluctant detective Daniel Lindskog ends up taking Hanna on as an unofficial partner, and the two begin to untangle a disappearance that points toward long-buried secrets within the close-knit community. In the tradition of Nordic noir, the series leans on atmosphere over spectacle: snowbound slopes, short winter days, and the quiet tension of a resort town where everyone has something to protect. The investigation is framed as a slow-burning whodunit, driven by character and place rather than sensational detail.
Carla Sehn anchors the show as Hanna, a guarded outsider whose instincts as an investigator will not let her rest, opposite Kardo Razzazi as the cautious Daniel and Charlie Gustafsson among the ensemble. Produced by SF Studios and shot on location in Are, the limited series became a breakout international hit for Netflix, topping the platform's non-English charts in its debut week and earning praise for its mood, landscape, and restrained storytelling. A second season, again drawn from Sten's novels, was confirmed to be in production for a later release.
