About Toilet-bound Hanako-kun
Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, known in Japanese as Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, is a supernatural school comedy adapted by studio Lerche from the manga by AidaIro. The story unfolds at Kamome Academy, a school steeped in urban legends and ghost stories known as the Seven Mysteries or Seven Wonders. The most famous of these is Hanako-san of the toilet, a spirit said to grant wishes to anyone who can summon her in the third stall of the old girls' bathroom on the third floor.
When first-year student Nene Yashiro summons the spirit in hopes of finding love, she discovers that Hanako is not a girl at all but a mischievous boy-ghost in a school uniform. After a wish goes wrong and Nene finds herself bound to him, she becomes Hanako's assistant, helping him maintain the balance between the living world and the supernatural one. Together with Kou Minamoto, a young exorcist, they investigate the school's other mysteries and the apparitions tied to them.
Praised for its striking, storybook art style and its blend of lighthearted humor with deeper, melancholy mystery, the series became a standout all-ages supernatural comedy. The first season aired in 2020, and a second season titled Toilet-bound Hanako-kun Season 2 continued the adaptation in 2025, deepening the lore around Hanako's past and the secrets buried beneath Kamome Academy.
