About Wayward Pines
Wayward Pines is a mystery thriller executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan and based on the best-selling novels by Blake Crouch. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke travels to the small, picturesque mountain town of Wayward Pines, Idaho to search for two missing federal colleagues. After a violent car accident, he wakes in the local hospital with no wallet, no phone and no way to reach the outside world, and quickly realises that nothing in this too-perfect town is what it appears to be.
As Ethan tries to leave, he finds every road loops back into town and the surrounding electrified fence keeps everyone inside. The residents follow strict, unspoken rules enforced by surveillance and harsh public consequences, and asking too many questions can be fatal. Reuniting with people from his past while his own wife and son search for him, Ethan begins to peel back the layers of a community built on secrets, slowly uncovering the truth about why the town exists and who is really in charge.
Across two ten-episode seasons, the series blends small-town paranoia, conspiracy and speculative science fiction with the kind of slow-burn twist Shyamalan is known for. The first season follows Ethan's investigation, while the second shifts focus to a new generation of residents grappling with the same impossible questions. Praised for its eerie atmosphere, ensemble cast and tightly plotted mystery, Wayward Pines became a cult favourite among fans of puzzle-box dramas.
