About Behind Your Touch
Behind Your Touch (Korean title Sonppeurei-eu wuui Cheonjae, literally The Genius of Hand Spray, often rendered The Touch Genius) is a 2023 South Korean comedy mystery drama that premiered on JTBC and streamed worldwide on Netflix. Set in the fictional rural town of Mujin, it follows Bong Ye-bun, a warm and slightly scatterbrained veterinarian who unexpectedly develops psychometric powers, allowing her to see fragments of a person's or animal's memories whenever she touches their backside. The series balances small-town comedy with a procedural mystery, blending slapstick humor, gentle romance, and a darker undercurrent involving a serial killer case.
When detective Moon Jang-yeol, a rigid and ambitious investigator from Seoul, is reassigned to Mujin, he initially dismisses Ye-bun's claims as nonsense. After her ability repeatedly produces uncannily accurate leads, the two form a reluctant and frequently comical partnership, using her visions to crack petty local crimes before stumbling onto a far more serious threat hiding in their seemingly peaceful community. Along the way, Ye-bun must learn to control a power she never asked for while protecting the people she loves.
Directed by Kim Suk-yoon and written by Lee Nam-gyu, the sixteen-episode series was praised for its bright tone, ensemble chemistry, and the way it threaded a genuine whodunit through an otherwise lighthearted package. It was positioned as a feel-good crowd-pleaser that offered a comic counterweight to the wave of grim Korean thrillers, while still delivering suspenseful stakes in its later episodes.
