About Paranormal
Paranormal (Ma Waraa Al-Tabiaa) is set in 1960s Cairo and follows Dr. Refaat Ismail, a brilliant and deeply skeptical hematology professor who insists there is a rational explanation for everything. Sardonic, anxious, and perpetually unconvinced, Refaat would much rather bury himself in lab work than entertain talk of ghosts, curses, or the supernatural. Fate, however, has other plans, and one strange case after another keeps dragging him toward the very mysteries he refuses to believe in.
Adapted from the beloved novel series by Ahmed Khaled Tawfik, the show pulls Refaat into a string of eerie, unexplained events: a haunted house that seems to remember its dead, a desert curse tied to an old expedition, and the lingering presence of a long-dead love who will not stay in the past. As the rational world he trusts begins to crack, Refaat is forced to weigh the evidence of his own eyes against everything his science tells him should be impossible.
Released in 2020 as the first Egyptian Netflix Original, Paranormal blends dry wit, period atmosphere, and slow-building dread into a six-episode mystery. At its heart is the tug-of-war between a skeptic and the inexplicable, complicated by his sharp Scottish colleague Maggie and his patient fiancee Howaida, as the professor learns that the line between the explainable and the unknown is far thinner than he ever wanted to admit.
