About Sasaki and Peeps
Sasaki and Peeps follows a worn-out, middle-aged office worker known simply as Sasaki, whose unremarkable life takes a sudden turn when he buys an exotic Java sparrow from a pet shop on a whim. The little bird, whom he names Peeps, turns out to be far more than an ordinary pet: Peeps is the reincarnation of a powerful sage from another world, complete with the memories and magic of his former life. Almost overnight, Sasaki gains a calm, courteous companion who can wield extraordinary abilities and offer the kind of steady counsel his lonely routine has always lacked.
Together the unlikely pair begin to move between two very different realities. In a medieval fantasy world Peeps once protected, Sasaki can trade modern conveniences for valuable goods and slowly build a quiet fortune, while back in contemporary Japan he is unexpectedly recruited into a secret government bureau that monitors psychics and supernatural threats. Mistaken for a powerful esper after using borrowed magic, the mild-mannered Sasaki suddenly finds himself caught between competing factions, ambitious agencies, and watchful neighbors who each want a piece of whatever he seems to be.
Adapted by studio Silver Link, the series balances cozy, low-key humor with a steadily widening web of intrigue. Much of its charm comes from the gentle, almost paternal friendship between an exhausted salaryman and the dignified bird-sage who guides him, as the two try to navigate office politics, otherworldly economics, and a quietly escalating power struggle while simply hoping for a more comfortable life. The result is a warm, character-driven blend of everyday comedy, fantasy adventure, and understated stakes.
