About Voltes V: Legacy
Voltes V: Legacy is a Philippine live-action science fiction series produced by GMA Network and based on the classic 1977 Japanese super robot anime Chodenji Machine Voltes V. Set in a near-future world threatened by an invading alien force known as the Boazanians, the series follows the Armstrong family and their allies as they pilot a giant combining robot called Voltes V to defend the planet. The adaptation blends large-scale visual effects with grounded family melodrama, a combination familiar to Filipino television audiences who grew up watching the original cartoon.
At the heart of the story are the three Armstrong brothers, Steve, Big Bert, and Little Jon, who alongside pilots Jamie Robinson and Mark Gordon form the team that operates the five Volt Machines. These vehicles dock together to create Voltes V, the only weapon capable of standing against the Boazanian Beast Fighters sent to conquer Earth. As the battles escalate, the pilots uncover hidden truths about the origins of the alien threat and the personal history that ties their own family to the war being waged against humanity.
Across its run the series dramatizes themes of family loyalty, identity, and resistance against tyranny, drawing on the source material's commentary about a rigid society divided by status. GMA Network promoted the show as one of the most ambitious local productions of its kind, and it later reached international viewers through a Netflix release, introducing the long-running franchise to a new generation while honoring the nostalgia of older fans in the Philippines.
