About Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a steampunk action-adventure series from director Tetsuro Araki and Wit Studio, the team behind Attack on Titan. Set in an industrial-age world ravaged by a plague that turns the dead into armored, undead Kabane, the story imagines humanity clinging to survival inside vast fortified stations linked by heavily armored steam locomotives. To travel between these strongholds is to risk everything, and the great trains have become the lifeline of a frightened civilization.
At the heart of the story is Ikoma, a young steamsmith on the station of Aragane who dreams of building a weapon capable of piercing the Kabane and freeing people from constant fear. When disaster strikes, Ikoma is partially transformed into a Kabaneri, a half-human, half-Kabane hybrid who keeps his mind and will while gaining extraordinary strength. Branded an outsider by the very people he hopes to protect, he must prove that a Kabaneri can be a guardian rather than a threat.
Ikoma soon crosses paths with Mumei, a fearless young Kabaneri whose combat skill and quiet resolve mask a painful past. Together with the crew of the armored train Koutetsujou, they fight to keep the living safe, defend their moving fortress, and search for a future beyond the walls. Blending fast steampunk action with themes of courage, belonging, and hope, the series frames its survival story as a tale of heroism in a desperate age.
