About My Deer Friend Nokotan
My Deer Friend Nokotan (Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan) is a surreal slice-of-life comedy built around one absurd premise: a deer-human hybrid girl transfers into an ordinary high school and quietly upends the life of its most respectable student. Torako Koshi is a model pupil with a tightly guarded secret, a delinquent past she has buried under a flawless public image. Her careful composure starts to crack the moment she crosses paths with Noko Shikanoko, a cheerful newcomer with antlers, deer ears, and a habit of doing whatever a deer might do at the worst possible moment.
Reluctantly drawn into Noko's orbit, Torako becomes her guide to human life and the unwilling co-founder of the school Deer Club. Each episode stacks one ridiculous gag on top of another, from Noko eating crackers off her own head to escalating turf wars with rival deer, all delivered at a frantic pace that leans hard into its own nonsense. The humor is fast, loud, and deliberately ridiculous, parodying the conventions of school-club anime even as it plays inside them.
Adapted by Wit Studio from Oshioshio's manga, the series became one of the most talked-about comedies of the 2024 season, helped along by an instantly recognizable opening sequence that went viral well beyond the usual anime audience. Beneath the chaos sits a gentle, friendship-first heart, as Torako slowly stops resisting the silliness and lets herself enjoy the strange company she has found. The result is a wholesome, no-romance ensemble comedy that wears its weirdness as a badge of honor.
