About Sakamoto Days

Sakamoto Days follows Taro Sakamoto, once the most feared and legendary hitman in the criminal underworld. At the height of his career he was an unbeatable assassin whose name struck terror into every rival organisation. Then he fell in love with a woman working at a convenience store, gave up killing, married her, and settled down. Years later he is an out-of-shape, soft-spoken family man who runs a small neighbourhood shop with his wife Aoi and daughter Hana, having traded a life of violence for one of quiet domestic happiness.

His retirement does not stay peaceful for long. The criminal world he left behind has not forgotten him, and the powerful Order of legendary assassins places an enormous bounty on his head when he refuses to return to killing. To keep the promise he made to his wife never to take a life again, Sakamoto must repel a parade of hitmen, mercenaries and rival killers using only non-lethal methods, all while protecting his family and his ordinary life. Despite his rounder figure, his reflexes, strength and tactical genius remain frighteningly intact.

Alongside Sakamoto are the mind-reading former assassin Shin Asakura, who joins his makeshift family, and the sharp-witted Lu Shaotang, daughter of a Chinese mafia boss. Together they take on increasingly dangerous opponents in a series that blends slick, inventive action choreography with warm slapstick comedy. The result is a story about a deadly man trying his hardest to be gentle, and the chosen family that gathers around his little shop.
